Rationale

Court is a Tudor-inspired restaurant set in Hever Castle. The brand was heavily influenced by its location's rich and dark history. The main character owning this castle was Henry VIII. Anne Boleyn, the original owner, was beheaded and then the King took up residence as he loved the isolation of the castle gave.

Keeping this in mind I had created a solo dining experience, where you can dine like the king himself, alone. Or like a noble where you can gather in groups like a traditional restaurant. Allocating these two different dining experiences with colours, one associated with royalty and one nobility. Alongside this taking shapes from architecture from the castle and times, and using gold foil to bring out the decadency and wealth of the royal title.

Logo Icon:

A responsive logo is needed more than ever with the creation of websites, apps and other physical touch-points. Here is Court's. The 'C' in the word mark placed in the centre of the iconic Tudor Rose. Where the brands diamonds make an appearance also.

Name reasoning:

A court, or group of persons who attended a ruler at any given time for social, political, or judicial purposes. The Tudor feast was the most important social occasion of all.

Logo Word Mark:

The use of diamonds as been introduced into the word mark, following suit with the shapes used for brand assets.

Variable Line Weights:

To show the grace and elegance that come with the royal title. I chose a font that captures this ideology.

Noble Diamonds:

The diamonds here have a slightly altered meaning. Representing the nobles, grouped together, close to each other in an open space. Much like how they were in Court.

A Little Flourish:

To really capture the sophistication that can come with a royal title, I chose a font that.

Diamond Meaning:

The solo diamond in the closed 'O' represents the King himself, sitting alone in his presence chamber.

The Dining Experience:

The core aspect of this restaurant is that it is divided in two. King Henry had a specific way of eating, by himself. Alone. In his own room. So I have taken this and created two packages.

A Website Built for Royals:

The Web is used to book the meal. So I created this website grounded in a dark feeling with the gold accents. I used the wood texture to link to the location itself. Here you can see three screens, the landing page, the different types of dining as well as the about us page.

Menus for a King & his Nobles:

I wanted the sense of hierarchy in the menu design themselves, making sure that there was a subtle nod to their social statuses and knowing who was above you. I used the size to translate this, the noble menu will be smaller then the kings menu as well as the kings menu having more of a selection of food to choose from.

Wooden Trencher

Trencher, originally, a thick slice of bread used as a primitive form of plate for eating and for slicing meat (hence its derivation from “trancher” meaning to cut, or carve), but by the 14th century a square or circular wooden plate of rough workmanship.

This platter will work the same, but brought up to a more modernised application. Carved with the brands beautiful geometric patterns, and the the distinctive logo icon on a high quality dark oak wood.

A Mobile Way to Book a Throne

Taken from the web, the app is responsive. Overall the design is the same but changed due to the lack of space on a mobile screen compared to a monitor or laptop screen. Here you can see a new page, the booking site, the responsive landing page and the two forms of dining options.
